AND is in our DNA! This Student is a Member of College Republicans AND His Parents Don’t Love Him!

And really is in our DNA! From athlete/musicians to athlete/journalists, saying the students of Northwestern are multifaceted would be an understatement! However, nobody exemplifies the “And is in our DNA” principle more than Weinberg junior, Preston Chumsford.

Hailing from Bridgehampton, New York, Preston is somehow able to find the time to serve as Vice President of Northwestern College Republicans AND be tormented by the knowledge that his parents don’t truly love him.

Preston told us the secret to staying afloat with his busy schedule: “Time management. It’s all about time management. I make sure to set aside enough time each day to get my work done for class. No procrastinating. That way I’m free to fulfill my obligations for College Republicans and lament the absence of parental love in my life”.

When he’s not studying for an economics midterm or organizing an event with a white supremacist guest speaker, Preston is still able to call his parents once a week for like 90 seconds before they tell him how he caught them at a bad time and they'll talk to him next week. “They love me. They just don't show it. That’s the type of people they are: not overly affectionate,” Preston remarked. “Sure, they’ve never actually said the words ‘I love you’, but they scream at me A LOT, so that must mean they care”.

Although many would be quick to assume that Preston’s lack of unconditional love in his life has to do with his backwards politics, he is adamant that his conservatism has nothing to do with the empty hole in his life where parental affection should be. “My parents are as conservative as they come. If anything, politics are one of the many things we have in common. That’s why I can't understand why they won’t love me. What’s wrong with me?”

When asked to comment on Preston, his parents Preston “Duke” Chumsford IV and Margaret DuPont Chumsford responded, “Who?”
