Belated Hot Take: Max Should Have Been the Family Wizard

Belated Hot Take: Max Should Have Been the Family Wizard

So I’ve been thinking about this for a while now and looking back, I have a lot of issues with Disney Channel. If you’ve never heard of it, it’s this pretty indie television channel that some children used to enjoy. One of these issues is all of the main characters ending up at knock-off Ivy League/elite schools--Miley Stewart went to Standford and Teddy Duncan went to Yail.  Southeastern seems like a more realistic alma mater when the only resume builder either of them had was madcap hijinks and killer one-liners. Go ‘Dogs! Above all else, however, there is one grievance that takes the cake and Disney Channel NEEDS to resolve immediately.

Max Russo DESERVED the title of Family Wizard on Wizards of Waverly Place.

Not only did he not become the Family Wizard, but he was the only sibling not to keep his powers. He instead got a sub shop which is actually pretty dope, but not the point! He was ROBBED I tell you. I have no concrete reason for why he should be the family wizard above his siblings, but nevertheless, I have an opinion and I need the whole world to hear it even if it is completely unsupported!!!!!!!! Is that not how the news works?

The whole series is set up so that either Justin or Alex would win the competition to be the Family Wizard, while setting up Max as the comedic relief in the meantime. In the end, both Alex and Justin got to keep their powers as expected and I was just really hoping for a twist you know? But I guess that’s not how Disney Channel rolls because “they were the favorites and worked hard to be wizards” blah blah blah NO. How about rewarding the only character who was genuinely considerate and not constantly making issues for daddy to fix??? Alex dated a WEREWOLF and Justin dated a VAMPIRE. Does Twilight not exist in their universe for them to learn from Bella Swan’s mistakes? Or maybe it does and they just enjoy causing mayhem, a classic example of Max being #mytruefamilywizard.  He only strove to improve society by inventing the high five when he traveled back in time (Season 4 Episode 26) and helping his Uncle Kelbo reveal to the family that he was actually Shakira (Season 3 Episode 13). Heartwarming. Even if he doesn’t understand basic multiplication, I trust him to wield almighty power and I hope you will all join me in making the same rational decision on such an important issue.

OK this has been Thomas the Tank Top and you’re reading Sherman Ave! *doo doo doo DOO*
