Forget MGMT Headlining Dillo, Have You Heard About this Barack Obama Guy?

The news that came out today from Mayfest announcing that Prog-Rock darling duo MGMT will be headlining this year’s Dillo Day is very welcome. MGMT is a hot, of-the-moment band that’ll bring a welcome note of excitement to the festival. But I would caution our dear readers to not lose focus of the other important news that is on everyone’s minds right now: we could, in the next year, have our nation’s first black president.

That’s right, every day new alerts are popping up on my brand new iPhone 1 (apps?? What a concept!) that the hot young senator from Illinois might have the best chance of being this country’s next president. And while I understand the pull of such hot fresh singles as “Electric Feel” and “Kids” (a song that I first discovered on Stumbleupon while taking a break from leveling up mining on my main Runescape account), it would behoove us all to be as up-to-date with our political climate as we are with the entertainment world.

So please feel free to dance along to MGMT. It’s your right, as much as it is your right to spend your hard-earned money on Shrek The Third in theaters, or to try out this cool, year-old Harvard-incubated website called “Facebook.” But just remember, there are bigger and more important things happening in the world as well. As this year’s American Idol winner Jordin Sparks said, “My heroes are just everyday people who work hard, are honest and have integrity.” Barack Obama is one of those people. And as much as MGMT are “fated to pretend,” I believe Mr. Obama is fated to lead this country.
