OPINION: Stitch is an Inherently Prejudice Organization... or Maybe It's Spoon?
Northwestern University has become a more inclusive, diverse community since its inception in 1851 by nine, pale Methodist men. The Northwestern of today is home to students from a variety of backgrounds that truly shine in our campus brochure. Yet despite all our progress, Northwestern continues to struggle with creating a safe space for all students. This stark reminder of our troubled past is clearly discernible in student groups like Stitch, the fashion publication, an inherently prejudice organization… or maybe I’m thinking of Spoon?
It is without a doubt in my mind that Spoon, the food publication, is founded upon a system of injustice and inequality, as shown in its members and its operations, but I actually might be thinking about PWild now that you mention it. Yes, now that I recall, Project Wildcat has displayed nothing but divisiveness during its existence at Northwestern. It is shameful that in 2018, a group of students are able to conduct themselves in a way that goes against all moral rectitude. Yet to this day, PWild receives recognition and funding from ASG. So maybe, when you think about it, ASG is the real culprit, using their minimal authority to promote systemic abuses of power. ASG has, after all, had a history of discrimination and wait, nope, definitely not ASG, they’re actually kind of diverse. I think I’m thinking of A&O. Sometimes I mix up all those funny acronyms.
By continuously allowing them to recruit new members while excluding others, we are complicit in A&O’s bigotry. Was it not A&O who were listed in a Daily investigation for their shockingly minimal efforts at expanding their diversity? It wasn’t? Ok, then I’m probably thinking of a different organization. I can’t find the article at the moment, so let’s keep going down the list.
It’s uncomfortable to address head on, but it must be said, and I am pretty sure the archery club is flat out bigoted. Call it a hunch, but there is, to my knowledge, at least some possible evidence that the bow-and-arrow-based group may or may not be racist as hell. (EDIT: checked with a friend, apparently they are not exclusionary so my apologies to the archery club)
There is definitely one group out there that is no bueno, it’s just on the tip of my tongue. Whoever they are, I can wholeheartedly confirm that they suck eggs, bigtime. One thing’s for sure, and that’s that we all don’t support what they’re up to, “they” being that student group that sucks eggs.
Greek life! That’s it. That’s the one with the racism and sexism. My apologies to Stitch, Spoon, PWild, ASG, A&O and archery club. Total doozy on my part. Fuck greek life, am I right?
