Heartwarming: New President Brings Hope to Struggling Small Prison Owner
After all the divisive election news these past few months, we could all use some positivity to cheer us up.
Meet Scott Marquardt, a local prison owner in Walnut Grove, Mississippi. He runs the Walnut Grove Correctional Facility, a little place with just a few hundred cells.
Scott is an upstanding citizen and all around nice person. Walnut Grove Mayor Brian Gomillion tells us “Scott’s always been a staple in the community. Even back in the 80’s when he first got started, he was always the first one to take see potential in ‘troubled teens’ around town. When someone came back after struggling in the outside world, he was more than happy to give them a place to stay, that’s just the kind of guy he is.”
But in the past few years, Scott’s business has fallen on hard times. “With the loosening of sentencing laws and leniency for non-violent offenders, there’s been less and less people coming through. It’s been a rough few years, with the economy and all, but man… things have been tough down here,” Scott said. “Without any big changes, we’ll probably have to close in the next year or so, and man that makes me upset.”
Enter President-Elect Donald Trump.
“I think this new president is really going to turn things around for us. Talking about 2 or 3 million illegal immigrants deported in the first year alone… after he rounds ‘em up and before he kicks ‘em out, they’re gonna need somewhere to stay, and I’m more than happy to open my doors!” Scott said. “Not to mention his plans for tougher mandatory minimums – the non-violent offenders are always the nicest ones to come through. The hardest part is saying goodbye, but I know most will come back sooner or later.”
“Frankly it’s nice to know we have a guy in office who’s looking out for the little private prisons,” Scott says. “Heck, once he starts rounding up critics wholesale, we might even need to expand to a larger facility!”
“One thing is for certain, with Donald Trump as President, this private prison isn’t going anywhere any time soon.”
